On 20 August 2002, I drove ZeeBee to Nashville, TN to meet with my nephew Nicholas Baumgartner to start a short, three day (~1400 mile) driving tour to the Gulf coast of Alabama and the Florida panhandle. Nicholas had spent his summer working in Europe, London and Frankfurt/M, and this was a brief vacation for him, before starting his third year studies at Vanderbilt Law School. One feature of the trip was that my nephew drove about 85 percent of the distance from and returning to Nashville (see map at right). The first day's travels (blue) took us (via a short excursion to MS) to Fairhope, AL. The second day was spent on the Gulf coast (red) and finished in Dothan, AL. On the third day we traveled north through the Talladega Hills (green) of NE Alabama.
The trip was 2370 miles in length, and the Boxster reached the 50,000 mile mark near the end. |
