Boxster Board User Information [ Features ] [ Acceptable Usage ] [ Acknowledgements ] We at Porsche Pete's Boxster Board welcome you! We realize that there are many questions of great importance to you, but likely have been discussed at length over the past year's). Please be aware that an extensive FAQ listing and Archive are available and you may find your answer there. This board is very active, and the members try to minimize bandwidth consumption. Please don't consider a lack of immediate response a snub - it probably means the question has been answered many times (and is therefore in the FAQ or Archives) or that we simply don't have a good answer for you! Most posters include their e-mail address, another option available to you when you don't feel a post is necessary. We also recommend you take a moment and review this entire page for features of the Board and Acceptable Usage. Anyway, please feel free to jump into any conversation, we welcome your inputs! Enjoy! Porsche Pete and the Boxster Boarders Porsche Pete's Boxster Board is a Web-based bulletin board. Unlike most other such boards, though, the Boxster Board stores messages as simple text files and creates HTML pages "on the fly." This means that the message index can be tailored by the user based on date and/or subject (via built-in keyword search capability), and can be viewed as either a chronological , guestbook, or a threaded list. The current default message maximum's are 30 days and/or 2000 messages. As either of these limits are reached, messages sitting idle for over 30 days or message totals over 2000 are transferred from the active message base, oldest first, to the Archive Board. Archived messages are saved for eternity by various storage means. Flexible User Display Configuration Individual users can easily override the default display settings ("Messages Posted or Modified Within the Two Days" / "Reversed Threaded Listing" ) by using the "Set Preferences" Option to tailor the message index display to their own tastes. They can also "Search" for specific messages based on date, subject or author. The "(Un)Subscribe" function allows users to receive regular e-mail digests of all new posts for offline reading of messages without having to "visit" the Board Message Index. Digest's are sent out 4 times per day, every 6 hours. An optional Free Photo Hosting Service for PPBB.com is available via 986Host.com. "Cookie" Support "Cookie" support allows the Boxster Board to recognize return visitors, keep track of messages posted since their previous visit, maintain their personal index display preferences, and automatically insert their names and e-mail addresses into post and response forms. The Boxster Board Message Page is a place for you to enter your Boxster comments, messages and questions, or to just prepare and educate yourself while you wait (and wait) for your Boxster to arrive. Just select "Post A New Message" to send a new message or select one of the current messages to reply. Flaming will not be tolerated. This does not mean kidding around with other Boxster Boarders, which is encouraged. The quick flip of a one liner here and there provides regular Boarders a laugh. Also keep in mind that the Boarder who you might feel like Flaming also shares your interest and enthusiasm in Boxster automobiles - so treat them with the respect with which you would like to be treated. Profanity will not be tolerated. Fraudulent, harassing or obscene messages will not be tolerated. Members who post these type of messages may be immediately banned from posting. Use clear subject lines. A frustrating part of being a Board reader (where hundreds of messages are posted daily) is being excited to read a message based on a great subject line, only to be disappointed when you find that the message has nothing to do with the subject line. So please make the Subject line appropriate to your post and reply clear and concise. Persistent advertising or posting of commercial related messages and/or links within the Message Page is not appropriate. There are other suitable areas at The Boxster Board set up if you have something Boxster related to sell. If an Administrator asks to stop particular or deletes Subjects/threads on the Board - we are not impinging on your "Freedom of Speech" - so please do not start with this silly excuse as your "right" to post "anything you feel like" to the Board! We are asking you to post these elsewhere, perhaps somewhere on one of the thousands of other Internet forums which are more appropriate for these off-subject threads. We only ask threads be moved with specific reasons in mind. If you would like to understand why we have asked for a thread to cease or have deleted one, simply ask us off the Message Board. We want Boxster Boarders to be able to show messages from this Board to anybody. You should be able to share any of the messages from this Board to your spouse, daughter, son, mother, or father without being embarrassed by the content. The morals and ethics of life are quite well understood by most people. Therefore, imagine that you are having a conversation with one of these family members on the list when posting messages - you'll enjoy the Board more and so will the rest of the Boarders! Considering the real-time nature of this Boxster Board, it is impossible for Administrators to review messages or confirm the validity of information prior to being posted. Please remember that Administrators can not actively monitor (24 hours per day/seven days per week) the contents of and are not responsible for any messages posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message. The messages express the views of the author of the message. You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this Message Board to post any material which is knowingly false, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you. Administrators may not be able to review each and every message that is posted and are not responsible for the content of any of these messages. Further, we reserve the right to delete any message for any reason whatsoever. "Censored" ... yup. "There is never going to be a consensus as to how the board is run. Anyone who doesn't like how it is run can go and start up their own board." Meredith 02/05. In summary: PLEASE, no spam, flaming, or vulgarity, just ENJOY! This board is monitored...
1) It is limited to Boxster-related posts. Why choose a moderated format? An unmoderated board allows more freedom of expression, at the price of increased message traffic, off-topic messages, and flame wars, all of which make it harder and less fun for people to use the board for its intended purpose. In the opinion of many, the fact that the board is moderated makes it more useful, and is a big factor in building the community spirit that exists here. A good moderator listens to his group and is fair, and builds up a group. A poor moderator loses participants. You look at the success of the board and decide which kind it is. By posting a message to the Board, you give the implicit permission for the message to be used intact or paraphrased at other areas within this Boxster Board web site and/or The Porsche 986 Boxster FAQ web site. No other use of your message is implied without your approval. The Administrators reserve and will exercise the right to delete any posted message which, in their sole discretion, is deemed inappropriate for the Boxster Board. We are always and forever hopeful that this is not necessary. Netiquette... There's always been some discussion about usage do's and don'ts.
