ribbonRE: Annoying noise coming from driver side top mechanism
Posted by John Ollivier on Wednesday, 8 July 1998, at 11:17 a.m

Yes, I had that, and was able to solve it. Look in your owner's manual on the steps to gain access to the top of the engine. This procedure requires lowering the top just enough for the rear access panel to raise. Once the panel is raised, you will see that there are left and right side linkages with snap-on ends that hold down the convertible top to the body. These snaps are the problem. There is too large a tolerance that allows a clicking sound to occur as the linkages hold down the top over bumps. Remove the snaps, as you would in the manual's procedures, and fill them with grease that will withstand the engine heat. Snap the linkage back into place, and that should end the problem.
