TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE

windscreenAnother dealer who doesn't know what he's talking about? Maybe. I take my clear windscreen in and out almost weekly with no performance problem.

Be careful of the clips, though... one of mine is broken (although still functional - it falls off easily). Press straight down on one side of the windscreen at a time while working the little plastic lever. If you're doing it right, each side will slide out *easily*. Same thing for installation.

Tim, I noticed my windstop rattling and after a 100MPH+ top down run I noticed one side was completely unfastened. It was only being held on by one fastner! I fastened it back but it still rattled. Later on I checked it out closely with the top down so I could have a better view. This allowed me to learn how to do it properly.

To remove the windstop, lift one of the levers slightly (fraction of an inch) and push down on the top of the windstop on the same side. Then push the top of the windstop toward the rear while still holding the lever. Repeat on the other side and lift the windstop out of the bottom groove of the roll bar.

With the windstop uninstalled, notice on the levers that there is a red mark on the front side of the lever - as viewed through the glass. I have found these little red marks to be important. I will explain later.

To install the windstop, insert the bottom of the windstop into the groove on the roll bar. Lift one of the levers slightly (again a fraction of an inch) and push down on the top of the windstop on the same side. Then pull the windstop forward and release the lever. Repeat on the other side.

I know my windstop is properly installed if:

1. I can shake the top of each side and it does not come loose.

2. I can look through the windstop and cannot see the red marks on the two levers.

Step two is vital. If you can see either one of the red marks then the lever pin is not engaged properly and the windstop may rattle and possibly come loose at high speed with the top down. I recommend doing this with the top down until you have done it a few times. Much easier to work with that way.

After learning the drill, I can remove and install the windstop in less than five seconds from inside the car with the top up. And as you know it has to be removed to clean the inside of the rear window.

NOTE: Be careful with the levers, they are fragile. If you lift a lever until you can see all of the red mark through the windstop (from the front looking toward the rear), you have lifted it far enough for removal and installation.

My windstop does not rattle if properly installed. Hope this helps. Send me an E-Mail if you have any questions.
