Auspuff

July 8, 2002

Many have come and gone... Many more have come and stayed.

I said something like that about 3 years ago in my FAREWELL tribute when talking about the future of this Board. I also laid out some ultimatums, such as "the site will be off my ISP's server" and "I will not be administering or maintaining the site." "I certainly will be able to and like to play a smaller role in any future Boxster Board, if needed. The rest is up to you all... On or before July 9, 1999. My underlying belief is that the Board should remain independent if it is to remain, and must be run to it's full potential or not at all. I'm sure that's what Ferry would have said."

Am I a prophet, or what!? Ok, bear with me :)

About 2 years ago I said something like "What happened since then has been a testament to the obvious future longevity of the Board. A guy in Houston stepped up to the plate and acted with a devotion and commitment that still amazes me." [Still does]

Going way back into the archives today (July 8, I gotta full 16 hour day of work tomorrow, and wont be around to read or post anything... it's July 9 already in Germany, isnt it?) and reading some of my long lost thoughts I had about this Board reminds me that (1) what little I have said, it has all worked out as I never really thought it would, and (2) I don't say much anymore, it has all worked out as I never really thought it would.

So much in the world, and mine has changed in 5 years. So little has changed here... to me, it is still the special place it was 5 years ago. This place now seems to be on auto-pilot (likely a Porsche option in 2005). The people really running this place, as well as those that frequent the site have made it that way. I don't know how Rob finds the time and effort to keep this place running. He has some help from Jason on the technical stuff now, I think. That was always his weakness :) There is always a flurry of activity behind the scenes with our deputies, pondering the state of the universe and what is to right and wrong with the Board. Randy, Walt, Greg, Chris, Steve, Mike, Meredith, MTCN... some silent, some vocal, some here, some I don't know where they are :) I like what it was and I like what it has become.

The phenomenal growth of this place in terms of statistics may be leveling off (That is a good thing!), but the influence you all have within the Porsche community is growing immensely. There are articles in Porsche magazines, referencing this place, believe it or not. There continue to be individual and corporate sponsors willing to provide the minimal support required to keep us here. There continue to be friendships that still may sprout from this place, but flourish well beyond and outside it. After 5 years, I am still in awe of what a tiny little url blip can mean to so many... or, as I said before: "My life and existence has been enriched from the worldwide camaraderie that is generated from this simple, little place in cyberspace... one can't ask for any more than that."

I just said the same thing I've said in the past, like much of what the Board is today. But, I like the past, and the future makes it present. 5 Jahre PPBB... enjoy.

Chuck
